gothic town hall

Wroclaw in Poland, is a city of over 600,000 inhabitants in southwestern Poland, towards the borders with the Czech Republic and Germany, just to give a first indication. Crossing the river Oder, the city has always had a troubled history, with lots of invasions of the Tatar, Swedes and Saxons, until after World War II, when the German city since the middle ages, with the whole region of Silesia, was assigned to the Poland as compensation for war.

Strange Buildings, the Brazilian castle in Scotland

kelburn castle

It is certainly not the largest castle in Scotland, but Kelburn Castle, 35 km west of Glasgow, is certainly the most striking and original castle in this part of Britain. Forget the traditional facade gray or brown that can be seen on most of the castles. A range of vivid colors and large in size, bring this XIII century building directly into our modern age.

Graffiti project, so was renamed this operation, started in 2007, when the owner of the castle, The Earl of Glasgow, it was said that it was necessary to remove an entire part of the building constructed in concrete, because it was unsafe: part that was added to the building in 1950. But at this point intervened the sons of the count, which have convinced the ‘Santa Claus’ to ‘graffiti tare’ this part of the castle, before it was removed. Spectacular natural scenery, Thor’s Well on the Oregon coast in the US

Thor's Well

Thor’s Well, almost sitting on the edge of the Oregon Coast, seems a mythological gaping hole over the abyss, which does not fill ever, despite the uninterrupted flow of sea water that disappears into its depths. But Thor’s Well, not to be confused with the wedge of Odin, it is not bottomless, although it still remains very dangerous.

Thor's Well

Also known as the exhaust pipe of the Pacific, in its “desecrated” version, the well is actually a hole in the rock deep probably only about 20 meters, nothing to do with the giant open pit mine in Siberia. But even if the well at the end is not as magical as it may seem, it is still a great place for taking pictures, preferably with the backdrop of the sun setting over the Pacific Ocean. japan populated cities

Despite globalization, Japan is still very far away from us, especially when it comes to customs. Easy to go wrong in these cases, and although most of the time the error is not so severe as to cause irreparable consequences, know the customs and traditions of the country that you are visiting, it is a sign of attention and respect. Especially in Japan.

Walking on the wrong side of the road. Although Tokyo is one of the most densely populated cities in the world, here also the crowd is ordered. Pedestrians, even on wider sidewalks, follow the tacit rule standing to the left, even when it would not be necessary. On escalators in Tokyo the rule becomes even more complicated: it is necessary to stand up to the left, but if you want to walk, you must do it right.

Call a sexual organ with his own name. Pronounce the proper name, the linguistically correct, a genital organ, especially women, is one of the most serious taboo by violating Japan. A polite Japanese uses the term “asoko”, which literally means “there, that place”. The beauty is that everyone understands the meaning.

Touch. If you think that some form of physical contact helps the relationships between people, in Japan at least consider it strange. Unlike Westerners, the Japanese do not like to share their germs when greeting.

Leave the tip. Forget the tips in Japan! Leave a tip only creates confusion. If you let it, then do not be surprised if the waiters will chases, even in the street.

Blow your nose in public. The Japanese do not like to blow your nose in public, or worse, to see someone blow in front of them. It is not that they are immune to cold, just prefer sniffling; those parts is perfectly normal, and no one pays any attention.

Pour soy sauce over white rice. Although for us the white rice and synonymous with intestinal flu or “hospital diet”, even if we don’t like white rice, better not add sauces, so as not to offend our host. In this case the solution is simple: pour the sauce over the other dishes, eat, and immediately after eating the rice.

Cross your legs. Crossing your legs is considered a gesture very informal, not correct, even if you do it in the most polite and graceful as possible. In Japan, you should try the experience of the “seiza”, a form of traditional Japanese sitting (in the knee), according to some, invented to torture foreigners.

Eat on the street or on the subway. In Japan eat when walking is considered disrespectful to those who prepared the food. Even when ordering from vendors, the Japanese expect than food is eaten there on the spot, or alternatively, that it is brought to home.

The same people who with patience and determination after enduring the cold, are “rewarded” by chromatic nuances that make the special sky. It is never guaranteed to be able to witness this phenomenon, but certainly better to carefully choose the place where to avoid waiting a certain disappointment.
